How to get to Macaroni Wood

M40/A40

Take the M40 out of London and before Oxford leave the motorway at Junction 8 (sign posted A40 Cheltenham). Remaining on the A40 you will, after approximately 20 miles reach the small town of Burford. Staying on the A40, take the first turning on the left after the roundabout at Burford. This is sign posted to Westwell (single-track road). After 2 miles you will come to a T-junction. Turn right into Westwell village and continue on this road for another 6 miles. Do not turn off this road even when you see a sign for Eastleach. You will eventually see a telegraph pole with the sign for Macaroni Wood pointing to a drive on the right hand side of the road. At the top of the drive turn left and you will see the Centre.

M4

Leave the M4 at Junction 15 and take the A419 sign posted to Swindon/Cirencester. This road is a dual carriageway and after approximately 3 miles that the A361 for Highworth. Go through Highworth and continue on this road to Lechlade. At Lechlade turn right at the T-Junction and continue through the village. At the fish and chip shop on the edge of the village turn left – sign posted to Hatherop.

Go over the disused railway bridge and turn right at the third set of crossroads that you come to. Continue along this road until you reach the sign for Macaroni Wood on a telegraph pole on the right hand side of the road. Turn left up the drive and left again at the top of the drive and you will see the Centre.

Rail

The nearest main line station is at Swindon. Trains leave from Paddington and take approximately 45 minutes. Swindon is approximately 20 miles from Macaroni Wood and arrangements can usually be made to collect groups from the station using the Centre’s mini-bus.

Coach

Coaches leave from Victoria to either Swindon or Cirencester. It is usually possible to collect groups from the coach stations.

On arrival

Richard and Liz meet each group on arrival and show them the facilities that are available. After a brief settling in period Richard will want to sit down with each group and pass on information about the buildings, the basic rules and the use of the site and the surrounding area.
